Afternoon Discipleship Classes

Every Sunday until December 11, 2016

1:05pm – 1:55pm

Want more training to better know and follow Jesus? Want more training so you can help others follow Jesus? If so, grab a friend and join us Sundays at 1 pm for our afternoon classes! There are 3 classes that run for 5 weeks this fall (Nov 6 through Dec 11): Pray the Bible, Grace Through Fellowship, and Old Testament Survey: The Former Prophets.

PRAY THE BIBLE

Rent has increased. Permits have become difficult to secure. Givings are up and down. We need to do something, but we don't know what to do. So we pray: "We don't know what to do, but our eyes are on you" (2 Chronicles 20:12). Come and join us as we set our eyes are on the One who advances his plans as we pray.

And the best way to pray in line with God's plan is to pray what we know he loves: his word. We'll spend five weeks together, developing the skill of praying the Bible as we call out to him. BONUS: We'll also pray for those we've shared the gospel with, whose names are on the 30,000 form. (Book for digging deeper: Praying the Bible by Don Whitney)

GRACE THROUGH FELLOWSHIP

Grace Fellowship Church. That's our name, but why? Do you know that God communicates his grace to us through our fellowship? In fact, fellowship with others is one of the main ways God pours his grace into our lives.

This class will focus on knowing and enjoying Jesus through corporate worship, sermons, baptism, and the Lord's Supper. (Book for digging deeper: Habits of Grace by David Mathis)

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY: THE FORMER PROPHETS

The Prophets make up the second part of Jesus' Bible. Within the Prophets, there are the former (first) and latter (second) Prophets. In this class, we’ll consider the structure and main themes of the former prophets: Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings. These books show us what happened to Israel from their conquest of the Promised Land to their exile from it. We'll learn about each book’s unique contribution to the narrative of Scripture. We’ll study what it meant to the original readers ("them-then") but we'll also consider how it points to Jesus and what that means for "us-now." There is a daily reading plan for this class. We’ll read Joshua through 2 Kings in six weeks.
