Afternoon Discipleship Classes

Every Sunday until April 2, 2017

1:05pm – 2:00pm

Former Writings

Stretching from Ruth to Chronicles, twelve books make up the Writings, which is the third part of Jesus' Bible. Within the Writings, there are the former (first) and latter (second) Writings. In this class, we’ll consider the structure and main theme(s) of the Former Writings: Ruth, Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs and Lamentations. (NOTE: Due to scheduling limitations, Ruth & Psalms were already taught). The Former Writings focus on living with wisdom; that is, how to think & live as Yahweh's covenant people.

Learning about each book’s unique contribution to Scripture, we’ll study what it meant to the original readers ("them-then"), how it points to Jesus and what that means for "us-now." Each lesson will prepare you to make the most of your readings each week, meeting Christ through the Word.

 Silence, Solitude, Journalling and Prayer

Did you know that Jesus practiced silence and solitude? Come and join us as we think about what the Bible teaches about silence, solitude, and journaling… and how all these things connect with prayer. We’ll be learning both the "what" as well as "the why." By the end of the end of these three weeks, you will be able to answer, ‘Are these disciplines biblical?’, ‘How should I practice them?’, and, ‘What can be gained by practicing them rightly?’
